BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Tufts University softball team swept a non-conference twinbill over host Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon in Bridgewater.  The visiting Jumbos blanked the Bears in the first game, 5-0, and completed the sweep with an 8-1 darkness shortened victory in game two.

Sophomore Aly Moskowitz (Westfield, N.J.) hurled a complete game, two-hit shutout for the Jumbos in game one.  Moskowitz (2-2) walked three, struck out one and induced a game-ending triple play with runners at first and second with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh.

BSU sophomore Meghan Dunn (Colchester, Conn.) suffered the loss for the Bears in the circle.  Dunn (8-5) allowed five runs (four earned) on ten hits and a walk while striking out two.

Tufts would score all the runs the would need in the top of the first as three consecutive two-out singles by junior Lena Cantone (Southington, Conn.), freshman Jo Clair (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Emily Beinecke (Concord, Mass.) gave the Jumbos a 1-0 lead.  The Jumbos would make it 2-0 one batter later as Clair came around to score on an infield error.

The Jumbos would add a run in the third on an RBI double by junior Mira Lieman-Sifry (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.), and pushed across two more in the seventh on Clair's 15th home run of the season.

Cantone, Clair, Beinecke and junior Lizzy Iuppa (Paramus, N.J.) all went 2-for-4 at the plate for Tufts in the opener.

In Tufts' 8-1 game two victory, the Jumbos took advantage of four Bridgewater State errors which led to all eight runs being unearned.  The game was stopped after six innings due to darkness.

Freshman Lauren Giglio (Niskayuma, N.Y.) went the distance in the circle for the visitors to pick up the win.  Giglio (4-3) gave up just one unearned run on three hits and six walks while striking out seven.

Beinecke went 2-for-4 in game two including a three-run homer in the Jumbos' four-run sixth inning.  She also added an RBI infield single in the first to get the scoring started.

Iuppa also finished 2-for-4 at the plate.  She doubled in a run in the fourth and singled and scored on Beinecke's homer in the sixth.  Liemann-Sifry went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.  She walked and scored in both the first and third innings, and drove in a run with an RBI single in the fourth.

Bridgewater State senior Tracey Sanko (Windsor, Conn.) was saddled with the loss as she gave up the eight unearned runs over six innings.  Sanko (1-8) gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out six.

The Bears scored their only run of the twinbill in the fifth inning of game two as sophomore Melissa Harmon (Shrewsbury, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second after junior Stephanie Burns (North Attleboro, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and came around to score when junior Michaela Ferreira (Fall River, Mass.) reached on an infield error.  Harmon also doubled in the third inning for one of the Bears' three hits.
