Softball Sweeps Cedar Crest

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State College softball team swept a doubleheader versus Cedar Crest College on Wednesday afternoon at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Bears (5-3) blanked the Falcons, 4-0, in the opening game of the twinbill and completed the sweep with a 8-0 victory in the nightcap.  The second game went five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Senior right-hander Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout in the opener.  Ducinski (1-2) walked one and struck out seven as she picked up her first win of the young season.

Bridgewater scored a run in the second inning, two more in the fifth and added an insurance tally in the sixth.

Sophomore Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, MA) went 2-for-3 at the plate in game one.  McDermott got the scoring started in the second as she singled, stole second and third, and scored on an RBI single by junior Casey Hill (Randolph, MA). 

In the fifth, sophomore Michaela Ferreira (Fall River, MA) singled, stole second and came around to score on an RBI double by junior Tracey Sanko (Windsor, CT).  Senior Meghan Noyes’ (Stoughton, MA) then plated Sanko with an RBI single.   Freshman Brianna Strecker (Waterford, CT) tallied the Bears' run in the sixth inning as she singled and eventually crossed the plate on a passed ball.

Noyes also had two hits in the opener as she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and an RBI.

Freshman Meghan Dunn (Colchester, CT) tossed a one-hit shutout in the 8-0 game two victory.  Dunn (2-1) walked two and stuck out six to earn her second win of the season.

The Bears tallied a run in the second inning, two in the third, two more in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Noyes produced her second multi-hit performance of the afternoon as she was 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Junior Kate Youngstrom (Holden, MA) went 1-for-2 with a double, a sacrifice and a run, while Sanko was 2-for-3 at the plate with four stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored.
