KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State College softball team swept a doubleheader with Newbury College this afternoon at the Disney Sports Diamondplex in Kissimmee, Florida.

Bridgewater (9-1) cruised to a 22-2 victory in the first game of the twinbill, while three BSC pitchers combined on a no-hitter in the nightcap as the Bears completed the sweep with a 13-0 win.  Both games were stopped in the middle of the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.   The Bridgewater hitters banged out 27 hits in the two games and were issued nine walks.

Junior right-hander Kaitlin Morelli (Milford, MA) went all five innings in the opener as she earned her first win in a BSC uniform.  Morelli allowed just one unearned run on three hits while walking three and striking out one.

Senior shortstop Rachael Sprague (Duxbury, MA) finished 2-for-3 in game one with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI.  Senior centerfielder Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, MA) went 2-for-3 as well with a double, two walks and three runs scored.  Junior Meghan Noyes (Stoughton, MA) and sophomore Casey Hill (Randolph, MA) also had two hits apiece.  Noyes was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, while Hill went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

In game two, junior Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) and seniors Stephanie Pierce (Worcester, MA) and Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, MA) combined on the five-inning no-hitter.

Ducinski, who started the game, worked two perfect innings with five strikeouts. Pierce (4-1) picked up the win in relief as she stuck out four and walked two in two innings of work.  Verroneau tossed a one-two-three fifth inning with one strikeout to complete the no-hitter.

LeBlanc highlighted BSC's 13-hit attack in the nightcap as she went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a career-high six RBI.

Senior Stacy Capodiece (East Lyme, CT) and sophomores Tracey Sanko (Windsor, CT), Julia Greene (New Bedford, MA) and Penny King (Hanover, MA) each added two hits apiece.  Capodiece finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Sanko went 2-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored.  King was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in, while Green had two hits in three at bats and scored a run.

The Bears head back north and will host a doubleheader with Clark University next Tuesday afternoon starting at 3 PM.
