KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State College softball team improved to 6-0 with a doubleheader sweep of Cedar Crest College on Monday from the Disney Diamondplex in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Bears posted a 4-1 victory in the opener and completed the sweep with a 3-2 eight-inning win in game two.

In game one, senior right-hander Stephanie Pierce (Worcester, MA) improved to 2-0 on the season as she allowed just one unearned run in five innings of work.  Pierce did not walk anyone and struck out eight batters.

Junior right-hander Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) notched her first save of the season as she worked two scoreless innings of relief.  Ducinski gave up just one hit, walked three and struck out two.

The Bears broke a scoreless tie with a three-run third inning highlighted by a two-run double by senior center fielder Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, MA).  Bridgewater would cap off the scoring with another run in the fifth.

LeBlanc finished 1-for-3 with her two-run double.  Sophomore first baseman Kate Youngstrom (Holden, MA) went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Senior right-hander Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, MA) went the distance in the nightcap as the Bears posted the 3-2 win in eight innings.

Verronneau (3-0) won her third straight start as he allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out six.

BSC took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI singles from LeBlanc and senior shortstop Rachael Sprague (Duxbury, MA).

The Bears maintained the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth when Cedar Crest tied the score on a two-run double.

The game went into extra innings as BSC pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.  With Youngstrom on second base to start the inning, senior DP Melissa McNamara (Stoughton, MA) moved her up to third with a sacrifice bunt.  Sophomore catcher Bridget Engwer (Wrentham, MA) followed with an infield single to deep short which plated Youngstom with the winning run.
