Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State College softball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Rivier College this afternoon at the Disney Sports Diamondplex in Kissimmee, Florida.

In a matchup of 2008 NCAA Division III Tournament participants, the Bears posted a 6-0 win in the opening game of the twinbill and completed the sweep with a 2-1 extra inning victory in game two.

BSC senior right-hander Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, MA) dominated from start to finish in the opener as she notched her second straight complete game shutout.  Verronneau (2-0) allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out 14 batters.

Senior third baseman Stacy Capodiece (East Lyme, CT) led Bridgewater's 13-hit attack as she went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in.  Freshman right fielder Michaela Ferreira (Fall River, MA) finished 3-for-4, while senior center fielder Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, MA) and junior second baseman Lauren Cucinotta (Franklin, MA) each went 2-for-4.  LeBlanc doubled, scored a run and added an RBI single.

In game two, LeBlanc belted a two-run, game-winning double in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Bears came away with the dramatic 2-1 win.

The game was scoreless through seven innings when Rivier plated a run on an illegal pitch in the top of the eighth.  BSC had runners on first and third with two out in the bottom of the frame when LeBlanc lined a shot down the left field line off the base of the fence which plated both runners.

Junior right hander Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) tossed five scoreless innings before turning the game over to senior Stephanie Pierce (Worcester, MA) in the sixth.  Ducinski allowed three hits, walked one and struck out nine.  Pierce (1-0) picked up the win in relief as she allowed one run on one hit while walking two and striking out three.

LeBlanc finished 1-for-4 with the big two-run double.  Junior Meghan Noyes (Stoughton, MA) paced the Bears with two hits in three at bats.

Bridgewater continues its southern trip as the Bears take on Cedar Crest College (PA) on Monday in a doubleheader which gets underway at 9 AM.
