Softball Sweeps MASCAC Twinbill with Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College softball team remained unbeaten in MASCAC play as they swept a conference doubleheader against Framingham State in Framingham this afternoon.  The Bears took the first game, 3-1, and in the second came from behind to pick up the 5-4 win. 

With the pair of wins, the Bears improve to 14-14 on the season and 6-0 in the MASCAC, while the Rams fall to 9-14 on the season and 3-3 in the MASCAC.

In the first game the Bears scored two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from outfielders Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, MA) and Meghan Noyes (Stoughton, MA) to take the lead for good.  The Rams cut the lead in half in the third inning as Liz Ranton (Milton, MA) led off the inning with a single to left and scored on an RBI single by Katelyn Pacheco (New Bedford, MA).  The Bears added an insurance run in the sixth inning as LeBlanc walked, was sacrificed to second and scored on a throwing error.

Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) picked up the win in game one as she allowed one run on five hits while striking out four.  Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, MA) picked up her third save of the season as she pitched three innings of scoreless relief while striking out five. 

Kelly Knox (Framingham, MA) went the distance for the Rams allowing three runs (none earned) on eight hits while striking out four.  Colleen Clancy (Lynn, MA) was 3 for 4 for the Rams in game one.

Noyes finished 2-for-3 in the opener with a run batted in, while Danielle Trull-Donahue (Stoughton, MA) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The Rams took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two on back-to-back RBI triples from Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, MA) and Rachel Timmons (Malden, MA) and an RBI single by Missy Howard (Dudley, MA). 

The Bears scored a single run in the third on a sacrifice fly by LeBlanc, and then rallied for four more runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.  Ciana Godin (Worcester, MA) belted a pinch hit two- run triple to tie the game, and Noyes drove in Godin with the go ahead run with an RBI single.  LeBlanc capped off the inning with an RBI triple scoring Noyes from first. 

The Rams scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple by Clancy to cut the deficit to 5-4.  The Bears held on for the win as they retired 9 of the last 12 batters for the Rams.

Ducinski (3-3) picked up the win in relief for the Bears in game two as she pitched five innings allowing one earned run on two hits.  Verronneau recorded her second save of the doubleheader and fourth of the season. Knox (8-7) picked up the loss in game two allowing two runs on six hits after entering the game in the fourth inning.

Noyes had two more hits in game two as she went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Nicole Hebert (Taunton, MA) also had a pair of hits as she finished 2-for-3 with a double. 

Both teams return to MASCAC action on Tuesday as the Rams host Salem State at 2:30 p.m., while the Bears host Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 3:00 p.m.
