BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

McBirney placed fourth out of a field of 98 runners at the 10th Annual Wheaton & Babson Season Opener held this past weekend at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course in Attleboro. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product completed the five-kilometer course in a career-best time of 15:56.79 as the helped the Bears finish fourth in the team standings at the meet.

The MASCAC Runner of the Week accolade marks the fifth of McBirney's career as he also earned the honor four times during the 2023 campaign.

Following a weekend off, the BSU men's cross country team will compete at the 51st Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 21st.
