Men's Cross Country Places Second at MASCAC Championships

DEVENS, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State men's cross country team placed second at the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Cross Country Championships held on Friday at the Fort Devens Course in Devens, Massachusetts.

Sophomore Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.), senior Ryan Goldman (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Mitchell Parent (Cumberland, Maine) each garnered All-MASCAC honors for the Bears by placing in the top ten. Ackroyd completed the eight-kilometer course in a time of 27:16.84 to finish second in the individual standings. Goldman placed sixth with a time of 28:11.89 while Parent was the ninth runner to cross the line checking in with a personal-best time of 28:27.47.

Freshman Nathan Sylven (Wrentham, Mass.) of Westfield State University captured the MASCAC individual title as he outdistanced the field of 74 runners by nearly a minute. Sylven posted a winning time of 26:19.91.

Westfield State won the meet title with 26 points. Bridgewater was next in the team standings with 47 points while Fitchburg State University (66 pts.) capped off the top three teams.

BSU sophomores Alexavier Almeida (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Ethan Hunt (Duxbury, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top five runners at the meet. Almeida placed 11th with a time of 28:38.76. Hunt crossed the finish line in a time of 30:42.01 to place 21st overall.

Following a week off, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the New England Division III Championships held at Franklin Park, in Boston on Saturday, November 11th.
