McBirney Leads BSU Men’s Cross Country at Suffolk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed 10th out of a field of 274 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University men's cross country team on Saturday at the Suffolk Invitational held at Franklin Park in Boston.

The Bears placed ninth overall in the team standings. Colby College captured the team title followed by UMass Lowell in second place and Bowdoin College in third.

McBirney covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:00.3. Junior Landen Vaillancourt of UMass Lowell checked in with the winning time of 25:24.0.

Sophomore Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, RI) was the next Bear to cross the line with a time of 26:45.1.

Sophomore Alexavier Almeida (North Attleboro, Mass.), senior Ryan Goldman (Franklin, Mass.), and sophomore Mitchell Parent (Cumberland, ME)capped off Bridgewater's top five runners at the meet. Almeida recorded a time of 28:01.0 to finish 84th, while Goldman posted a time of 28:12.9 to finish 94th at the meet. Parent placed 105th overall as he crossed the line with a personal-best time of 28:29.6.

The BSU men's cross country team is off until Friday, October 27th when the Bears compete at the MASCAC Championships hosted by Worcester State University at the Fort Devens Course in Devens, Massachusetts.
