BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.

McBirney placed 15th out of a field of 164 runners to lead Bridgewater State at the 25th Annual James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University this past weekend at Stanley Park. The Andover, Massachusetts product covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:26.99 as he helped the Bears post a 14th place finish in the team standings.

McBirney and the BSU men's cross country team will be back in action on Saturday when the Bears travel to Springfield, Massachusetts for the Western New England Invitational.
