Wysong Garners All-New England Honors, Qualifies for NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Junior Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's cross country team at the 2018 NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championships held on Saturday at Bowdoin College.

Wysong placed seventh out of a field of 416 runners as he covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:11.34. With his performance, Wysong qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships which will take place next Saturday at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winniconne, Wisconsin.

Wysong is the ninth different runner in program history to qualify for the Division III national championship meet and first since Andy Sukeforth in 2014.

The Bears finished 13th out of 58 teams at the meet.

Senior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) placed 52nd with a time of 26:13.43, while junior Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) crossed the line in 26:51.55 to finish 90th overall to round out the Bears' top three harriers.

Senior Sam Brunnette of Plymouth State won the individual championship with a time of 24:55.97.

Amherst College captured the team title while Williams College, Middlebury College, MIT, Tufts University and Bates College rounded out the top six. Amherst and Williams College automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Middlebury, MIT, Tufts and Bates are among those that will be competing for at large bids to the NCAA Division III Championships. In total, 16 teams nationwide will qualify at the discretion of the USTFCCCA selection committee. Each region is limited to a maximum of six teams.
