Stephen Wahome Named MASCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior harrier Stephen Wahome has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Wahome placed first and helped the Bears captured the team title at the 2012 MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Championships held at Stanley Park in Westfield this past Saturday.  The Lowell, Massachusetts native garnered conference Runner of the Year honors as he covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:36.87.

The meet title marked Wahome’s second of the season as she also took home top honors at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational back on September 15th.

Wahome, who has been named MASCAC Runner of the Week five times in his career, earned all-conference status in each of his four seasons with the Bears.

During the 2011-2012 academic year, Wahome was voted to the Capital One Division III Academic All-District One Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA).   He also earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish at the 2011 Division III New England Men’s Cross Country Championships and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Next weekend, Wahome and the BSU men's cross country team will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

BSU harriers have combined to capture five out of a possible six MASCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week awards during the 2012 season.  Along with Wahome's three, fellow all-conference teammates, senior David Phipps (Attleboro, Mass.) and junior Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.), have also earned the honor.
