BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight season, Bridgewater State University senior Stephen Wahome has been selected to the Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-District One Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A three sports athlete, Wahome earned first team honors in District One, which is comprised of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, and advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration.

Of the 12 District One honorees, Wahome is the lone student-athlete from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) voted to the team.

A native of Lowell, Massachusetts, Wahome wrapped up his academic career with an impressive 3.59 grade point average as he just recently graduated from BSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management.  Stephen was named to the Dean's List in each of his last six semesters at Bridgewater and is a six-time MASCAC All-Academic Team selection.

A three-time MASCAC Cross Country Runner of the Week in the fall of 2012, Wahome won the conference individual title and captured MASCAC Runner of the Year honors.  He led the Bears to their second conference team title in the past three seasons.

In 2011, Wahome qualified for the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships after placing fourth to earn All-New England honors at the New England Division III Championships. He finished 109th out of 279 runners at the national meet.

During the spring outdoor track season, Wahome helped lead the Bears to the MASCAC and New England Alliance championships as he captured MASCAC individual crowns in both the 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run.

Wahome also captured the individual title at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championships and earned All-NEICAAA honors in the 10,000-meter run.  He added an eighth-place showing in the 10,000-meter run at the ECAC Division III Championships to garner All-ECAC status in his final collegiate meet.

During the winter indoor season, Wahome won MASCAC individual titles in the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs as he helped the Bears capture both the MASCAC and New England Alliance crowns.  Stephen also ran a leg on the conference champion 4 x 800 relay.

Wahome leaves Bridgewater State as the school outdoor record holder in the 10,000 (31:17.02).  He also owns two more individual indoor records in the 3,000 (8:43.21) and 5,000 (14:54.12) and is a part of three record-holding relay teams, two indoor (4x800, DMR) and one outdoor (4x800).

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
