BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior David Phipps has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Phipps posted a 19th place individual showing for the Bears at the Connecticut College Invitational held this past weekend at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Connecticut.  The Attleboro, Massachusetts product covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:58 as he helped Bridgewater finish 13th in the team standings.

A two-time All-MASCAC Team selection in 2010 and 2011, Phipps is the third BSU harrier to garner MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors this season as he joins classmate Stephen Wahome (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.).  Phipps also earned the weekly award during the 2011 campaign after capturing the individual title at the Mass. Maritime Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational.

After a weekend off, Phipps and his cross country teammates will return to action on Saturday, October 27th when they compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by Westfield State University.
