BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Matthew Mooney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Mooney placed eighth in the 100-meter dash (11.07) and tenth in the 200-meter dash (22.35) this past weekend at the Amherst Spring Fling. The Douglas, Massachusetts native recorded personal best times in both events. He also finished 16th in the long jump (18'8.5"/5.70m) at the meet.

Mooney currently ranks 12th in the East Region in the 200 and 20th in the 100.

The MASCAC Rookie of the Week honor marks the first of Mooney's career.

The BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete on Friday and Saturday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
