Three Bears, 4x100 Relay Earn All-New England Honors to Lead Men’s Track & Field at DIII New Englands

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.), Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) and the Bears' 4x100-meter relay earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team during day two of the 2024 Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Mount Holyoke College.

McBirney placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a PR of 3:54.85.

Adigwe was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a finals time of 14.98.

Stalters finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 50 feet (15.24m).

The Bears' foursome of Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.), Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.), Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed sixth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.40 seconds.

The top eight placewinners in each event at the two-day championship meet garner All-New England accolades.

The Bears finished tied for 16th place in the team standings with 26 points. MIT captured the meet title with 108.5 points followed by Tufts University (78.5 pts.) in second place and Bowdoin College (64 pts.) in third.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team will compete at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by the College of the Holy Cross.
