Men's Track & Field Captures Silfen Invitational Title

NEW LONDON., Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field captured the meet title on Saturday at tge Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.

The Bears won the two-day meet with 116 team points. The University of New Haven placed second with 107 points, and host Conn. College finished third with 104 points.

On Saturday, Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) and Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) earned individual titles. Dann won the hammer throw crown with a toss of 167 feet, four inches (51.00m) while Adigwe garnered top honors in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.20 seconds.

Also placing in the field events for the Bears were Jonathan Quigley (Haverhill, Mass.), Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.), Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.), Nathaniel Packer (Tisbury, Mass.) and Leo Lopez (Haverhill, Mass.). Quigley placed second in the hammer throw (163'9"/49.91m) and fourth in the shot put (44'7"13.59m). Stalters was second in the shot put (49'10.5"/15.20m). Barnes placed second in the high jump (6'1.5"/1.87m). Packer checked in at fourth in the hammer (161'4"/49.18m) and seventh in the shot (42'9.75"/13.05m) while Lopez finished sixth in the hammer (150'6"/45.89m).

Quigley, Parker and Lopez all recorded personal-best marks in the hammer. Quigley also hit for an outdoor PR in the shot while Packer equaled his outdoor PR in the shot.

On the track, Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed second in both the 200-meter dash (22.41) and 400-meter dash (50.42) while Michael Neitich (Middleboro, Mass.) was third in the 400-meter hurdles (59.02). Jordan Rivera-Silva (Attleboro, Mass.), Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) and Javon Epps (Brockton, Mass.) placed fourth (11,25), sixth (11.264) and seventh (11.267), respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Michael Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished sixth in the 200 (22.91) and Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' placewinners with an eight-place performance in the 110 hurdles (16.35).

Rivera-Silva competed in the 100-meter dash for the first time in his early collegiate career.

The BSU outdoor track & field teams are back in action next week when the Bears compete on Friday and Saturday at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT.
