Men's Track & Field Competes at Corsair Classic

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the Corsair Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

The Bears recorded nine top three finishes

Sophomore Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) captured the meet title in the 10,000-meter run as he outdistanced the field with a PR time of 33:28.97.

Seniors Nathaniel Packer (Tisbury, Mass.) and Jonathan Quigley (Haverhill, Mass.) placed second and third, respectively, in the shot put. Packer tossed the shot an outdoor personal best 42 feet, 9.75 inches (13.05m) while Quigley posted a mark of 42 feet, 1.5 inches (12.84m). Quigley also added a second place performance in the hammer throw with a PR heave of 151 feet, ten inches (46.28m).

Junior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was the second runner to cross the finish line in the 5,000-meter run as he recorded a time of 15:57.76.

Freshman Ryan Cuvier (Tewksbury, Mass.) tied for third in the high jump in his collegiate debut with a leap of six feet, 0.75 inches (1.85m).

Graduate student Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.), sophomore Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top three placewinners. DeAndrade placed third in the 100-meter dash (11.18) while Neitlich finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (58.01) and Mooney checked in at third in the 200-meter dash (22.47). Mooney was making his outdoor debut.

The Bears finished in second place in the team standings with 112.5 points. WPI won the meet title with 164 points. Eastern Connecticut State University (108 pts.) rounded out the top three teams.

The BSU outdoor track & field teams travel to Amherst College next Saturday for the Amherst Spring Fling.
