Men's Track & Field Competes at Tufts Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the non-scoring Tufts Cupid Challenge held at the Gancher Famly Sports and Convocation Center.

Freshman Jordan Rivera-Silva (Attleboro, Mass.) captured top honors in the 400-meter dash with a PR of 50.76 seconds.

Senior Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed second in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles (8.65) after posting a preliminary time of 8.56 seconds. Barinelli also equaled his career indoor best in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 1.25 inches (1.86m).

Junior Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed second in the 200-meter dash (22.72) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.32).

Senior Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) was second in the weight throw (51'11.25"/15.83m) and eighth in the shot put (43'3.75"/13.20m).

Graduate student Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) placed second in the shot put (48'3.25"/14.71m) while seniors Jonathan Quigley (Haverhill, Mass.) and Nathaniel Parker (Tisbury, Mass.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put as they both recorded career-best throws of 44 feet, 11.75 inches (13.71m).

Senior Exondus Barnes (East Providence R.I.) recorded a season-best mark of six feet, five inches (1.96m) to place sixth in the high jump.

Sophomore Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.) tied his season best in the long jump (20'4.5"/6.21m) to finish eighth at the meet.

Senior Leo Lopez (Haverhill, Mass.) finished seventh in the weight throw with a PR of 48 feet, 0.75 inches (14.65m).

Graduate student Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) placed fourth in the 200 (22.90) and fifth in the finals of the 60-meter dash (7.11).

The foursome of junior Charles Dakai (Millville, Mass.), sophomore Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) and freshmen Roger Perez (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Nathan Branco (Fairhaven, Mass.) placed third in the4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:30.35.

Senior Michael Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and graduate Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) finished sixth (23.05) and eighth (23.21), respectively, in the 200.

The Bears will travel to Smith College next Saturday for the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships.
