Men's Track & Field Competes at River Hawk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell and held at The Track at New Balance.

The meet predominantly featured Division I and Division II programs.

Senior Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 4.75 inches (1.95m).

Senior Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) finished 15th in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 54 feet, nine inches (16.69m) while senior Jonathan Quigley (Haverhill, Mass.) was 33rd (47'5"/14.46m) in the event.

Graduate student Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) threw the shot put 46 feet, 3.5 inches (14.11m) to finish 22nd at the meet.

In the track events, junior Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed tenth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds while senior Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished 13th (8.49).

Junior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was the 13th runner to cross the finish line in the 800-meter run as he checked in with a personal-best time of 1:55.73.

Junior Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) set personal marks in both the 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Spofford finished 23rd in the 400 with a time of 49.72 seconds and 31st in the 200 with a time of 22.41 seconds.

Freshman Jordan Rivera-Silva (Attleboro, Mass.) was 42nd in the 400 (50.80) and 47th in the 200 (22.67) as he posted collegiate-best times in both events. Graduate student Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) finished 48th in the 200 (22.68).

Dann, Quigley, Stalters, Adigwe, Barinelli, McBirney, Spofford, Rivera-Silva and Matias all recorded Division III New England Championships qualifying marks or times.

The foursome of McBirney, Matias, sophomore Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) and Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) finished 17th in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:26.33.

The BSU men's indoor track & field team is back in action on Saturday, February 3rd when the Bears compete at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.

Notes: Dann is currently ranked fourth in the East Region in the weight throw and 46th in all of Division III...Spofford is sixth in the East Region in the 400 and seventh in the 200..McBirney is sixth in the East Region in the 800...The Bears' 4x400-meter relay is ranked sixth in the East Region.
