Stalters, Lighten Head to NCAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) and senior Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) will be competing at the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The national championship meet will be held May 26-28 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio with the University of Mount Union serving as the host.

Stalters is seeded third in the javelin throw. He recorded his qualifying and BSU school-record mark of 218 feet, 11 inches (66.74m) on May 13th at the NEICAAA Championships held at Bryant University.

Lighten qualified in two events as he is seeded 15th in the 100-meter dash and 18th in the 200-meter dash. Lighten posted his qualifying time of 10.47 seconds in the 100 at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State on April 15th, and notched his qualifying and school-record time of 21.28 seconds in the 200 at the NEICAAA Championships.

The men's javelin is scheduled for Thursday at 5:45 PM. The preliminary races of the men's 100-meter run are slated to take place on Friday afternoon starting at 3:45 PM with the finals scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1:40 PM. The preliminaries of the 200 are expected to get underway on Thursday evening at 6:55 PM with the finals on Saturday afternoon at 2:50 PM. 

Lighten qualified for an NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship meet for the third time in his career. He placed 15th in the 200 at the indoor championships this past March and also qualified in the 200 for the 2020 indoor championships but that meet was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Stalters is making is his debut at an NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship meet 

For each men’s individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
