Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Captures MASCAC Title

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team captured the program's third straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship on Saturday at Westfield State.

The MASCAC outdoor title marked the sixth in team history as Bridgewater also won conference championships in 1996, 2012, 2013, 2018 and 2019. The Bears tallied 228 points in the team scoring to easily outdistance runner-up Westfield State University (166 pts.).

Sophomore Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R,I.) won a pair of MASCAC individual titles in the long jump and the high jump. Barnes posted a career-best mark of 22 feet, 11.75 inches (7.00m) in the long jump, and leaped six feet, 4.25 inches (1.94) in the high jump.

Sophomore Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) placed first in the javelin with a career-best toss of 189 feet, six inches (57.78m), while senior Joseph Zingarelli (North Kingston, R.I.) captured top honors in the pole vault with a school-record vault of 14 feet (4.27m). Zingarelli eclipsed Jamie Carlson's previous school record of 13 feet, 6.5 inches set in 2019.

In the track events, sophomore Dimetri Morris (North Andover, Mass.), junior Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.), sophomore Blake Kerwin (Rehoboth, Mass.), and junior Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) won the MASCAC title in the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best time of 43.19 seconds.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring freshman Noah Lanner (Hull, Mass.), sophomore Cameron Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.), senior John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) captured the conference crown with a season-best time of 3:31.93.

Morris also won the 110-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 15.20 seconds, and placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 59.62 seconds.

DeAndrade captured top honors in both the 100-meter dash (10.91) and 200-meter dash (22.17).

Senior Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' MASCAC champions as he placed first in both the 10,000-meter run (34:34.40) and the 5,000-meter run (15:35.34). Wysong's time in the 5,000 marked a season best.

Freshman Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the Bears' top scorer at the meet as he recorded 26 team points. Barinelli finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.48) and third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.05), long jump (21'9"/6.63m) and high jump (6'0.75"/1.85m).
