Four Bears Garner USTFCCCA All-New England Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men’s track and field program saw four student-athletes garner Division III All-New England honors as the U.S. Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) handed out its awards for the 2019-2020 indoor season.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned all-region distinction, in addition to the members of the region’s top three relay teams.

Sophomore Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) earned All-New England accolades in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, while classmate Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) also garnered the honor in the 200-meter dash. Seniors Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) were recognized for their performance in the 800-meter run and weight throw, respectively.

Both Lighten and Higgins qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Lighten was seeded second in the 200, while Higgins was seeded 20th in the 800. The national championship meet, which was slated to take place on March 13th and 14th at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was cancelled, however, due to COVID-19.
