Six Bears Garner All-New England Honors at DIII New England Men's Indoor Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Six different members of the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team garnered All-New England honors at the 2020 Division III New England Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday at Springfield College.

Sophomore Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) claimed All-New England accolades in two events. DeAndrade placed second in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.19 seconds and added a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 6.97 seconds.

Fellow sophomore Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) placed third in the 200-meter dash posting an All-New England time of 22.34 seconds.

Freshman Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) earned All-New England honors placing seventh and setting a new BSU indoor record in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 5.5 inches (1.97m). Barnes bested his own mark of six feet, 4.75 inches (1.95m) set earlier this season and equaled by teammate Andrew Chen.

Seniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) also recorded All-New England performances for the Bears. Haynes placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 50.62 seconds, while Higgins ran a season-best time of 1:55.02 to finish fourth in the 800-meter run.

Rounding out Bridgewater State's All-New England performers, senior Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 54 feet 11.5 inches (16.75m).

The Bears finished ninth in the team standings at the two-day championship meet with 35 points.

Next Saturday, select members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.
