Men's Track & Field Wins Two Events, Carlson Sets Pole Vault Mark at Wesleyan Invitational

WESLEYAN, Conn. – Sophomore Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) placed first in the weight throw and junior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) broke the school record in the pole vault to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team at the non-scoring Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday at the Bacon Field House.

Johnson recorded a mark of 49 feet, 2.25 inches (14.99m) in the weight throw to win the event. Junior Austin Maskell (Weymouth, Mass.) finished second in the weight throw with career-best toss of 48 feet, eight inches (14.83m).

Carlson finished sixth in the pole vault with a school record height of 13 feet, 5.25 inches (4.10m). He eclipsed freshman teammate Joseph Zingarelli's (Saunderstown, R.I.) previous program mark of 13 feet, three inches (4.04m) set just last weekend at the Wheaton Invitational.

The Bears' foursome of freshman John Lara (South Boston, Mass.), sophomore Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), senior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) and sophomore Kyle Cordeiro (Westport, Mass.) captured top honors in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:26.07.

Senior Joseph Kisamore (Attleboro, Mass.) placed second in the 800-meter run (2:00.78), while senior Colin Knapton (Mattapoisett, Mass.) finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.25) and senior Zack Viera (Fairhaven, Mass.) took home fifth place in the 1,000-meter run (2:42.44).

Seniors Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) and Austin James (Mansfield, Mass.) finished fourth (44'11.5"/13.70m) and fifth (44'7.5"/13.60m), respectively, in the shot put.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by Rhode Island College.
