Espinosa Leads Men's Track & Field at BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Sophomore Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) placed first in three individual events and one relay to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track and field team at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational held on Saturday at cold and windy Swenson Field.

Espinosa captured top honors in the 100-meter dash (11.05), 200-meter dash (22.67) and the long jump (6.83 meters).  He qualified for the ECAC Championships in both the 100 and the long jump. The Bears’ 4 x 100 team of Espinosa, Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass), Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass), and Chinedu Chukwu (Randolph, Mass) placed first with a time of 43.80 seconds.

Joseph Danner-Hicks also placed second in the 100 (11.16) and third in the 200 (23.16). Joshua Danner-Hicks placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.49 meters.

Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, Ma) and Joshua Goehring (Haverhill, Mass) picked up the other individual victories for the Bears. Judge ran a 51.42 in the 400, and Goehring won the 800 with a time of 1:58.86.  Judge also placed fifth in the 200 while running a 23.59. Both were part of the 4x400 team, along with Andrew Corley (Milton, Mass) and Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass), which placed first in the event with a time a 3:29.18.  Corley also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (58.84).

Stephen Wahome (Lowell, Mass) placed second and qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:14.39, while Dallas O’Brien (Marshfield, Mass) placed fifth (34:39.43) in the event.

Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass) placed third in the 110 -meter hurdles with a time a 15.90 seconds, while Conor Foley (Foxborough, Mass) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time a 10:24.99.

Josh Wakefield (North Dighton, Mass) and Stephen Cawley (Dedham, Mass) placed fifth in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively. Wakefield had a throw of 140 feet, one inch (42.71 meters), and Cawley had a toss of 43 feet, 6.5 0 inches (13.27 meters). Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass) placed fourth in the discus (131'7.00") and sixth in the shot (42'7.00").

The outdoor season continues for the Bears next weekend at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University.
