Horan Leads Men's Outdoor Track & Field At Eastern Connecticut Invitational

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bears captured 10 individual titles and one relay title at the 6th Annual Eastern Invitational, hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University. Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass) led the men with two titles, winning the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump. Horan ran a time of 15.12 seconds in the hurdles, and had a jump of 5 feet, 9.69 inches (1.77 meters).

Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass) added a first in the discus and a second place in the shot put. In back to back weeks, Cawley has broken the school record in the discus, this week with a toss of 150 feet, 5.12 inches (45.85 meters). In the shot put he finished with a mark of 46 feet, 3.9 inches (14.12 meters).

Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass) flipped spots with Cawley in the shot put and discus. Lavoie won the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 6.65 inches (14.19 meters). He finished second in the discus with a mark of 141 feet, 3.28 inches (43.06 meters).

Felix Mensah (Lowell, Mass) won the 100 meters with a time of 11.37 seconds, qualifying for the Division III New England Championships. He added a second place in the 200 meters with a time of 23.34 seconds. Dallas O'Brien (Mansfield, Mass) won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:15.36. John Breault (Dartmouth, Mass) won the 3,000 meters coming across the line in 9:33.48. Andrew Corley (Milton, Mass) placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.72.

The men swept the triple jump with the trio of Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass), Cedric Lamour (Brockton, Mass) and Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, Mass). Danner-Hicks won the event with a jump of 45 feet, 8.03 inches (13.92 meters). Lamour placed second jumping 45 feet, 2.90 inches (13.79 meters) and qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships. Judge rounded out the top 3 with a mark of 41 feet, 4.84 inches (12.62 meters).

The men also swept the top four in the javelin behind Nathaniel Meyer (Easton, Mass), Ian Knapton (Mattapoisset, Mass), Noah Peduzzi (Stow, Mass), and Chris LaGuerre (Roslindale, Mass). Meyer won the event with a throw of 151 feet, 5.71 inches (46.17 meters). Knapton followed in second with 122 feet, 11.2 inches (37.47 meters). Peduzzi finished third with 122 feet, 3.32 inches (37.27 meters). LaGuerre ended in fourth with a toss of 110 feet, 1.65 inches (33.57 meters).

Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass) placed third and qualified for the ECAC Championships with a time of 15.63 seconds. Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass) placed fourth in the 400 meters, running a time of 51.86.

Sean Spillane (Middleboro, Mass) came in fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:03.93. Lamour placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 4.09 feet (6.20 meters). Conor Foley (Foxborough, Mass) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.90.

The 4x400 team of Danner-Hicks, Judge, Knapton and Christopher Naughton (Braintree, Mass) rounded out the day with a first place finish of 3:30.31.

The Bears will head to Fitchburg State University for the Eric Loeschner memorial Meet, which is slated to get underway at 10:00 am.
