Four More BSU Indoor Records Fall During Day Two of NEICAAA Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Four more school records fell as the Bridgewater State track and field teams competed at day two of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Championships.

The meet featured New England schools from all three divisions.

Freshman Justin Powell (Brockton, Mass.) upped his high jump record to six feet, 4.25 inches (1.94meters) as he placed 12th in the event.  Powell's previous mark of six feet, 2.25 inches was recorded earlier this season.

Sophomore Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) bettered his mile record of 4:16.47 by more than two seconds as he placed 23rd at the meet with a time of 4:14.37.

Junior Stephen Wahome (Lowell, Mass.) posted a time of 8:43.42 in the 3,000-meter run to break his own BSU indoor record of 8:45.74 also set earlier this season.  Wahome crossed the line in 18th place.

The Bears' relay team of sophomore Tim Judge (East Bridgewater, Mass.), freshman Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) and juniors Andrew Corley (Milton, Mass.) and Tom Coyle (Franklin, Mass.) set the BSU 4 x 400 mark with a time of 3:28.06 to finish 20th overall at the meet. They eclipsed the previous standard of 3:28.78 set in 2010 by Matt Perreault, Kevin White, Chris Dagostino and Mohammed Malik.

Junior Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) added a 15th place showing in shot put for the BSU men with a toss of 47 feet, 11.25 inches (14.61 meters).

On the women's side, the Bears' 4 x 400 relay posted a season-best time of 4:05.26 to finish 22nd in the event.  Competing on the relay were senior Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.), sophomores Malgorzata Czerwonka (Billerica, Mass.) and Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass.).

The BSU track teams did not place in the team standings.  The University of Connecticut captured both the men's and women's team titles.
