McPherson Sets BSU Shot Put Mark to Lead Men's Track at Northeastern

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) set the school indoor record in the shot put to lead the Bears' men's track and field team at the Northeastern Jay Carisella Invitational held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The meet featured New England teams from Divisions I, II and III.

McPherson posted a third place distance of 49 feet, 9.25 inches in the shot put as he broke teammate Stephan Cawley's previous mark of 48 feet, 8.00 inches set just last season.  McPherson also added a 14th place showing in the weight throw (42'7.50").

Sophomore Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass.) finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.03 seconds.  Horan posted a time of 7.95 seconds in the preliminaries.

Sophomore Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) was 12th in the triple jump (42'4.00"), 17th in the 200-meter dash (23.77) and 20th in the long jump (19'0.50").  Junior Felix Mensah (Lowell, Mass.) finished 12th in the 55-meter dash (6.76) and 18th in the 200 (23.79).

Freshman Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:08.01 to finish 16th overall in the 500-meter dash, while sophomore Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, Mass.) added a 15th place performance in the 400 (53.20).

McPherson, Horan and Mensah all qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the shot put, 55-meter hurdles and 55-meter dash, respectively.  McPherson also qualified for the ECAC and Open New England Championships, while Horan qualified for Open New Englands as well.

Next Saturday, the Bears compete at the Harvard Open.
