Mensah Leads Men's Track at Husky Spring Open

DEDHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore Felix Mensah (Lowell, Mass.) placed first in the 100-meter dash to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track and field team at the season-opening Northeastern Spring Open on Saturday.

Mensah posted an event winning time of 11.34 seconds as he also qualified in the 100 for the New England Division III Championships.

The Bears 4 x 100 relay team consisting of Mensah, classmate Mohammed Malik (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshmen Joshua and Joseph Danner-Hicks (Bedford, Mass.) also crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 43.93 seconds.  The relay team qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships.

Joshua Danner-Hicks posted a fourth place showing in the triple jump and also qualified for Division III New Englands.  He also finished fourth in the 100 (11.68 seconds).

Junior Andrew Corley (Milton, Mass.) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.42), while sophomore David Phipps (Attleboro, Mass.) crossed the finish line sixth in the 5,000-meter run (15:38.49).

Sophomore Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) posted the seventh best distance in the shot put (45' 9.00") and finished eighth in the discus (121'7.00").
