Robby Cooney Named Little East Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week and third time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore Robby Cooney has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Cooney went 1-2 at first singles and teamed with Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.) for a perfect 3-0 second doubles mark in a 2-1 week for the Bears.

Cooney posted a 7-5, 6-2 straight set victory over Salem State's Quentin Wilkins and paired with a Krampf for an 8-5 doubles triumph in a 9-0 LEC win over the Vikings. He also dropped a tough 6-4, 4-6, 7-10 decision to UMass Boston's Rudraksha Trivedi and earned an 8-2 win at second doubles as the Bears captured the Little East regular season title for the first time since 2006 with a 5-4 victory over the Beacons.

Earlier in the week, Cooney and Krampf recorded an 8-5 win in doubles competition against Wentworth.

In eight matches this season, Cooney is 5-3 in singles play competing exclusively at the top flight with a 3-1 Little East mark. He has also paired with Krampf for a 6-2 record (3-1 LEC) at second doubles.

Cooney also earned LEC Rookie of the Week honors on April 8th and April 22nd.

The BSU men's tennis team is currently 6-4 on the season. The Bears, who wrapped up Little East play with an undefeated conference mark, entertain Curry College on Monday afternoon at three o'clock in the regular season finale.
