Men's Tennis Rolls to 9-0 Win Over Thomas

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team blanked Thomas College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. The match marked the Bears' home opener.

The Bears improve to 2-1 with their second straight win while the Terriers fall to 2-1. The two teams were meeting for the third straight season with Bridgewater hosting and winning all three matches by 9-0 scores.

The Bears captured each of the three doubles matches and swept the six singles flights.

In doubles play, sophomores Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.) posted an 8-5 decision at number one. Sophomore Robby Cooney (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.) cruised to an 8-0 win at the second flight while sophomores Filippo Mucci (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) did the same at the third spot.

Cooney (6-0, 6-2), Beatrice (6-0, 6-0), Ayson (6-0, 6-2), Krampf (6-3, 6-4), Mucci (6-2, 6-1) and Hebert (6-2, 6-2) each recorded straight set singles wins at the first through sixth flights, respectively.

Cooney and Mucci notched their first collegiate wins in both singles and doubles play. Cooney was making his collegiate debut.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock. The Bears host Little East Conference foe University of Southern Maine, while the Terriers entertain VTSU Johnson.
