Men's Tennis Posts 7-2 Win Over Castleton in LEC Opener

CASTLETON, Vt. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team opened Little East Conference (LEC) play with a 7-2 victory over VTSU Castleton on Saturday afternoon at the Vermont Sports & Fitness Club.

The Bears improve to 1-1 (1-0 LEC) on the season while the Spartans fall to 4-1 (0-1 LEC).

Bridgewater captured two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles flights.

The sophomore pairing of Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.) recorded an 8-1 victory at the top doubles flight while junior Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Barros (Somerset, Mass.) team up for an 8-4 win at number three.

In singles play Beatrice (6-0, 6-1), Ayson (6-3, 7-5), Krampf (6-1, 6-0) and Barros (6-1, 6-4) notched straight set wins at the first, second, third and fifth flights, respectively, as did sophomore Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) at number five (6-2, 6-2).

Ayson picked up his first wins in a BSU uniform.

The Bears host Thomas College next Tuesday afternoon at 3:30.
