Men's Tennis Opens 2024 Campaign with 9-0 Setback to Roger Williams

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Roger Williams University men's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts.

Winners of six of their last seven matches, the Hawks improve to 7-3 on the year. The match marked the season opener for the visiting Bears (0-1). Roger Williams has won each of the last eight meetings of the two teams.

The Hawks swept the three doubles matches and captured each of the six singles flights.

In the top flight doubles battle, Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) and Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) edged the Bears' number one pairing of Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.), 8-6.

Camden Poitras (Hudson, N.H.) and Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.) cruised to an 8-0 victory at the second doubles flight while Sam Gibson (East Harrington, Conn.) and Jackson Slattery (Watertown, Conn.) earned an 8-3 decision at the third spot.

Carroll, Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.), Poitras, Collins, Cooper Brown (Plano, Texas) and Glassman all won in straight sets in singles play for the Hawks at the first through sixth flights, respectively.

Up Next: Both teams open conference play later this week. The Bears travel to VTSU Castleton on Saturday afternoon to take on the Spartans at two o'clock in a Little East Conference (LEC) match. The Hawks head to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Endicott College on Friday afternoon for a three o'clock match with the Gulls.
