BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Salem State University men's tennis team captured at least a share of the Little East Conference (LEC) regular season title as the visiting Vikings edged Bridgewater State University, 6-3, in a key conference match on Wednesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Vikings improve to 8-1 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in the Little East, while the Bears fall to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Salem swept the three double matches while the two teams split the six singles flights all in straight sets.

Each of the three double matches finished with identical scores of 8-5. The Vikings' junior tandem of Parker Andreoli (Windham, N,H.) and Kevin Merino-Rivas (Billerica, Mass.) earned the win at third doubles, while graduate student Roni Brazile (Brockton, Mass.) and senior Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.) paired up for the triumph at the second flight. Graduate student Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) and freshman Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) rounded out doubles play with the victory at number one.

Wilkins cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles to give the visitors a 4-0 lead. After BSU freshman Tyler Barros (Somerset, Mass.) got the Bears on the board with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number six singles, Brazile secured the decisive fifth point for the Vikings with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the second flight.

Muttiah added a 6-2, 6-1 triumph for Salem at number one singles, while freshman Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.) recorded wins for the Bears at the third (6-4, 6-3) and fifth (6-4, 6-3) flights, respectively.
