Men's Tennis Falls to Roger Williams, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The visiting Roger Williams University men's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over Bridgewater State University on Friday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Hawks improve to 13-2 on the season with the win, while the Bears fall to 3-6. Roger Williams has won each of the last seven meetings of the two teams.

The Hawks capture two of the three doubles matches and swept the six singles flights.

Senior Jon Trevethan (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.) cruised to an 8-0 win at the top doubles flight, while freshman Jackson Slattery (Watertown, Conn.) and sophomore Sam Gibson (East Hampton, Conn.) recorded an 8-2 victory at the third spot.

Graduate student Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and freshman Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) teamed up for the Bears' lone point of the match, a tough 8-6 triumph at second doubles.

Trevethan, Collins, sophomore Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.), senior Ryan Schuck (Glastonbury, Conn.), sophomore Alex Smith (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman Ben Trovato (Bridgewater, Mass.) all won in straight sets in singles play for the visitors at the first through sixth flights, respectively. Collins edged Nutter in the match of the day at the second flight, 7-5, 7-6 (7-1).

Up Next: The Bears entertain Thomas College on Monday afternoon at 3:30. The Hawks wrap up regular season play on Wednesday when they travel to Endicott College for a three o'clock Commonwealth Coast Conference match with the Gulls.
