Men's Tennis Blanks Thomas, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Thomas College on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 6-3 on the season, while the visiting Terriers fall to 4-4. The two teams were meeting for the first time.

Bridgewater State swept the three doubles matches and captured all six singles flights.

In doubles play, seniors Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Colin Lamusta (Lynnfield, Mass.) posted an 8-2 decision at number one while seniors Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, N.Y.) and Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) paired up for an 8-0 victory at the second flight. Senior Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, N.Y.) and junior Charles Fiske (Taunton, Mass.) earned a win by default at the third spot.

Pavao won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, in the battle of the top flight singles players. Lamusta (6-4, 6-4), Nutter (6-1, 6-0) and Desnoes (6-0, 6-2) also recorded straight set wins in singles play for the Bears at the second, third and fifth flights, respectively.

BSU junior Robert Dwyer (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) won in a super tie-breaker at fourth singles, 6-1, 4-6, 11-9. Fiske picked up the win by default at number six to round out the scoring.

In upcoming action, the Bear entertain Little East Conference foe University of Southern Maine on Saturday at noon. The Terriers travel to Salem State University on Thursday afternoon to take on the Vikings at 3:30.
