Men's Tennis Fall to UMass Boston in Little East Opener, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The visiting UMass Boston men's tennis team opened Little East Conference (LEC) play with a 9-0 victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Beacons improve to 3-3 (1-0 LEC) on the season, while the Bears fall to 4-2 (0-1 LEC). UMass has won each of the last ten matches between the two teams and holds a 19-14 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to 1985.

UMB swept the three doubles matches as well as all six singles flights in straight sets.

Seniors Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) and Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) highlighted the win for the Beacons. The duo teamed up for an 8-2 win at first doubles, while Beltran posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the top singles flight and Shah earned a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the second singles spot.

The Bears are back in action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Roger Williams University for a 3:30 match with the Hawks. The Beacons are off until next Saturday afternoon when they entertain LEC foe Western Connecticut State University at one o'clock.
