BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team opened the 2022 season with an 8-1 victory over Curry College on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
The host Bears (1-0) swept the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles flights. The visiting Colonels fall to 0-4 on the young season.
In doubles play, seniors Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Colin Lamusta (Lynnfield, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-2 win at the topflight, while junior Cameron Doherty (Milford, Mass.) and senior Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, N.Y.) earned an 8-0 victory at the second spot. Junior Robert Dwyer (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) and freshman Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, N.Y.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 decision at number three.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Desnoes posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the sixth flight, and Doherty secured the win for Bridgewater State with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at number five. In the three spot, Ziegler took home a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Pavao (6-4, 6-4) and Lamusta (6-4, 6-2) rounded out the Bears' singles winners at the first and second flights, respectively.
Junior Kevin Meade (Milton, Mass.) notched the Colonels' lone point of the match with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at fourth singles.
In upcoming action, the Bears entertain Wentworth in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30. The Colonels travel to Rhode Island College on Thursday afternoon for a 3:30 match with the Anchormen.
