Men's Tennis Falls to Eastern Nazarene, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The visiting Lions wrap up the abbreviated 2021 season with a record of 3-0. The Bears (0-2) have two more matches remaining on the schedule.

Eastern Nazarene swept the three doubles flights and captured all six singles matches to earn the win.

Sophomore Carlos Gomez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and junior Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) teamed up for an 8-1 victory at number one doubles, while the Lions also received doubles wins from freshman Iago Alcover (Mallorca, Spain) and sophomore Baldo Karinja (Zadar, Croatia) at the second flight and senior Jesus Lucart (Wylie, Texas) and freshman Simao Nobre (Lisbon, Portugal) at number three.

Sophomore Carlos Gallardo (Tulua, Colombia) posted a 6-1, 6-1 straight set triumph at number five singles, and Lucart secured the decisive fifth point for Eastern Nazarene with a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at the sixth flight.

Alcover, Gomez, freshman Carlos Sanchez (Malaga, Spain) and Nobre also recorded straight set wins in singles play for the Lions at the first (6-2, 6-0), second (6-1, 6-2), third (6-1, 6-1) and fourth (6-2, 6-3) flights, respectively.

Up Next: The Bears travel to Brandeis University on Thursday afternoon for a three o'clock match with the Judges.
