Men's Tennis Downs Little East Foe Salem State, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and captured four of six singles flights as the host Bears downed Salem State University, 7-2, in Little East Conference (LEC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

Bridgewater improves to 9-2 on the season and remains undefeated in the Little East with a 3-0 conference mark.  The visiting Vikings slip to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in LEC play.

With the win, BSU head coach Barry Gorman became the all-time winningest coach in program history as he notched his 45th coaching victory since taking over the reins of the program in 2009.  Gorman, who has produced a record of 45-31 (.592) in his five season as the Bears' skipper, surpassed Filipe Miguel who posted a mark of 44-18 (.710) in six seasons (1997-98, 2005-08). 

In doubles play, BSU sophomore Sean Bleau (North Dighton, Mass.) and junior Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) teamed for an 8-2 decision at the top flight, while junior Eric Johnson (Kingston, Mass.) and freshman Hung Huynh (Worcester, Mass.) posted an 8-1 victory at the second spot.  Freshman Matt McLeod (Leicester, Mass.) and junior Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) added an 8-2 win at number three.

In singles play, McLeod, Johnson and freshman Alex McGannon (Fairhaven, Mass.) all won in straight sets at the second (6-1, 6-3), fifth (6-2, 6-3), and sixth (6-2, 6-1) flights, respectively.  Farrell won in a three set tie-breaker, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

Johnson remains unbeaten in singles play on the season as he improves to 10-0.

Seniors Matt Lee (Pembroke, Mass.) and Krystian Biedul (Podkowa Lesinas, Poland) tallied points for the visitors.  Lee posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision at first singles, while Biedul registered a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at the fourth flight.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon.  The Bears travel to Little East foe University of Southern Maine for a four o'clock match with the Huskies.  The Vikings host conference rival UMass Boston at 3:30.
