Men's Tennis Blanks Wheelock, 9-0

BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior Eric Johnson (Kingston, MA) won a combined two matches, while dropping just three games to lead the Bridgewater State University men's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over host Wheelock College this evening at the Winsor School Courts in Boston, MA.  The Bears improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-1 in their season opener.

Johnson teamed with freshman Hung Huynh (Worcester, MA) to take an 8-2 decision in pro-set format at number one doubles.  Johnson did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles.

Sophomore Wesley Esthimer (Franklin, MA) was one of 11 players to have a hand in scoring points for Bridgewater State, winning at first singles, 6-1, 6-0.  Junior Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, MA) was one of five Bears to win his singles match without losing a game, taking second singles, 6-0, 6-0.  Freshman Matt McLeod (Leicester, MA) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 decision at number three singles, while sophomore Sean Bleau (North Dighton, MA) and junior Cody Farrell (Scituate, MA) also won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at the fourth and fifth singles, respectively.  

Freshman Michael Delisle (Berkley, MA) and junior Colin Fontaine (Westfield, MA) paired up for an 8-0 decision at number two doubles.  The Bears' duo of sophomores Brendon Cooney (Rochester, MA) and Tim McGaffigan (Dedham, MA) came away with an 8-3 triumph at third doubles.

The Wildcats will be in action again on March 29 when they travel to Leicester, MA to take on Becker College in the New England Collegiate Conference opener at 3:00 p.m., while Bridgewater State heads to Danbury, CT to take on Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut State University on March 30 at 1:00 p.m.
