Men's Tennis Drops 7-2 Little East Decision to Salem

SALEM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State university men's tennis team suffered their first Little East Conference setback as the Bears dropped a 7-2 decision to host Salem State University on Saturday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts.

The win improves the Vikings to 5-7 on the season and 2-1 in the LEC, while the Bears slip to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Salem State secured all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead.  Rob Random (Newbury, MA) and Joshua Giller (Peabody, MA) won at first double, 8-6.  Eglis Bizhoti (Dorchester, MA) and Matt Lee (Pembroke, MA) earned a point at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 victory, while Kenny Hodgkins (Winthrop, MA) and Jong (Joe) Kim (Seoul, South Korea) won their second straight at third doubles with a 9-7 decision.

The Vikings also took the top four singles matches to cruise to the five-point victory. Random and Lee won at the No.1 and No. 2 spots winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3, 7-5.  Bizhoti and Giller took points at third and fourth singles, respectively.

Cody Farrell (Scituate, MA) scored a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles for the Bears. Nicholas Desisto (Uxbridge, MA) won his match at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 decision for Bridgewater State.

Salem State is back in action at UMass-Boston on Tuesday at 3:00 PM while Bridgewater State hosts Southern Maine at 3:30 PM.
