Men's Tennis Blanks Johnson & Wales, 9-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team spoiled the season-opener for Johnson & Wales University as the Bears downed the host Wildcats, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Moses Brown Courts.

With the win, Bridgewater State improves to 2-0 on the year.

Freshman Wesley Esthimer (Franklin, Mass.) picked up a 6-1, 7-6 win at number one singles for Bridgewater State and teamed with senior Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, Mass.) for an 8-0 victory at the first doubles spot.  Zagame also had an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win at second flight singles.

Freshman Sean Bleau (North Dighton, Mass.), junior Michael Kofman (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and sophomores Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) added straight set singles wins for the Bears at the third through sixth flights, respectively.  Kofman and Farrell also paired up for an 8-1 triumph at second doubles.

Sophomore Colin Fontaine (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman Jarred Diorio (Kingston, N.H.) rounded out the scoring with an 8-1 decision at third flight doubles.  The match marked the collegiate debut for Diorio.

In upcoming action, the Bears host Wheelock College on Friday afternoon at 3:30.  The Wildcats entertain Curry College on Thursday also at 3:30.
