Men's Tennis Downs Little East Foe Salem State, 6-3

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.  – The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team defeated visiting Salem State University, 6-3, in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Courts in Bridgewater.

The Bears improve to 5-4 on the season with the win and 2-1 in the Little East.  Salem falls to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Senior co-captain Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, Mass.) paced the Bears as he posted a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory at second singles, while also teaming up with classmate David Campbell (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) for a tough 9-7 win at top flight doubles.

Bridgewater captured four of six singles matches and two of three double flights to come away with the key conference triumph. 

Freshman Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) came back from a set down to win his fifth singles match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.  Fellow rookie Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) also won in three sets at number six, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, while senior co-captain Nicholas Amrose (Arlington, Mass.) breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory at the third spot. Amrose and Farrell also paired up for an 8-4 decision at second doubles.

The Vikings received singles wins from Alexander Eisath (Renon, Italy) and Johan DaSilva (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) at the first and fourth flights respectively.  Eisath won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, while DaSilva rebounded from a first set loss to edge BSU sophomore Nicholas Desisto (Uxbridge, Mass.), 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Freshman Eglis Bizhoti (Dorchester, Mass.) and senior Shawn Dowen (Hudson, Mass.) combined for an 8-2 triumph at number three doubles.

Bridgewater is on the road tomorrow as the Bears take on non-conference foe Wheelock College at 1:00 PM.  Salem travels to Little East opponent UMass Boston on Tuesday for a three o'clock match with the Beacons.
