Men's Tennis Downs Johnson & Wales University, 8-1

BRIDGEWATER, MASS. -- The Bridgewater State College men's tennis team won their third straight match as the Bears downed Johnson & Wales University, 8-1, this afternoon from the Dr. Henry Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater State (3-3) won five out of six singles flights led by top player Matt Charest (Somerset, MA).  The Bears' senior captain breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory as he improved to 4-2 on the season.

Charest and freshman Duncan Yarworth (Wrentham, MA) teamed up for an 8-3 win at first doubles as the Bears swept all three doubles flights.

Yarworth, freshman Jeff Belleville (Grafton, MA), sophomore Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) and freshman Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) rounded out the Bears' singles winners.

Belleville and senior Brendon Barbo (Yarmouthport, MA) posted an 8-5 victory at second doubles, while Lipomi and sophomore Nick Amrose (Arlington, MA) teamed up for an 8-5 win at the third flight.

Freshman James Adriano (Pawcatick, CT) was the lone winner for Johnson & Wales as he posted a 6-2, 6-4 straight set triumph in the sixth flight singles match.

The Bears will travel to Roger Williams University on Thursday (3:30 PM), while Johnson & Wales (0-1) travels to Norwich University on Saturday (1:00 PM).
