BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College men's tennis dropped a 6-3 decision to Wheaton College this afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.
Wheaton won five of the six singles matches to go along with a doubles victory as the Lyons evened their overall record at 3-3. Bridgewater falls to 0-3 with the loss.
The Lyons were led by sophomore Greg Poulin (Boxboro, MA) who posted a 6-1, 6-3 third flight singles win. Poulin along with fellow sophomore Cullen Garrity (Middletown, MD) also came away with an 8-2 victory in the second doubles match.
Bridgewater State senior Matt Charest (Somerset, MA) won the first flight singles battle with a 6-1, 6-4 straight set triumph over Wheaton senior Neall Oliver (Portland, ME). Charest also teamed with freshman newcomer Duncan Yarworth (Wrentham, MA) for an 8-4 victory in the top doubles spot.
Senior Brendon Barbo (Yarmouthport, MA) and freshman Jeff Belleville (Grafton, MA) paired up for a tough 9-8 (10-8) win at third flight doubles.
BSC returns to action on Friday at 3:30 as the Bears travel to Clark University to take on the Cougars. Wheaton travels to Skidmore College on Sunday for a one o'clock match.
