BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College freshman Gonzalo Gomez has been named the Little East Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

A native of Wilmington, Vermont, Gomez helped lead the Bears to a perfect 3-0 mark last week which included Little East wins over Southern Maine and Rhode Island College.

Gomez was a perfect 3-0 in fourth flight singles action on the week as he improved his overall record to 5-6 on the season.

Gomez knocked of USM's Matt McGowan in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) in the Bears' 8-1 win over the Huskies. He then battled to a tough three-set win (6-1, 4-6, 7-6) as Bridgewater State defeated Clark University, 8-1. Gomez capped off the week with a straight set (6-0, 7-6 (7-2)) win over Rich Truchon of RIC.

Bridgewater State is currently 6-5 on the season and 2-3 in the Little East.  The Bears take on UMass Dartmouth this afternoon to end the regular season, and then host the Little East Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
