BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth time in his career, Bridgewater State College junior Matt Charest has been named the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
A native of Somerset, Massachusetts, Charest earned the honor for his performance on the courts in a pair of matches last week for the Bears as he finished a perfect 2-0 in first flight singles play and 2-0 in top-flight doubles play.
In the Bears' 6-3 win over Johnson & Wales University, Charest won the first singles match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. He then paired with Giovanni Cuscina to come away with an 8-3 victory in the first flight doubles match.
Charest also won a tough three set first singles match (6-3, 2-6, 10-7) against Brad Bolte of Roger Williams University in the Bears 6-3 loss to the Hawks. He again paired up with Cuscina for an 8-6 win at first doubles.
The Little East Conference first flight singles champion a year ago, Charest is currently 2-1 in both singles and doubles play this season. In three seasons at Bridgewater State he is 19-7 competing exclusively in the top flight singles slot.
