Men's Tennis Defeats Southern Maine, 8-1

Bridgewater, Mass. -- In Little East Conference men's tennis action, the Bridgewater State College Bears defeated the University of Southern Maine, 8-1, this afternoon from the Dr. Henry Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.

The Bears (3-5, 1-3 LEC) captured all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches to come away with the win.

Junior co-captain Matt Charest (Somerset, MA) and senior co-captain Barry Gorman (Hopedale, Ma) led the Bears to the big conference win as they snapped a three-game losing streak.

Charest battled to a three set win at first flight singles as he came back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-0, 10-7.  He also teamed with junior Giovanni Cuscina (Mansfield, MA) for an 8-5 victory at first doubles.

Gorman won his eighth straight singles match as he remains undefeated in singles play this season.  Competing at second singles, Gorman also won a tough three set match, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9.  He teamed up with junior Brendon Barbo (Yarmouthport, MA) for an 8-3 victory at second flight doubles.

Bridgewater State hosts Clark University tomorrow at 3:30.  Southern Maine (4-5, 3-3 LEC) travels to Colby College on Thursday for a 5 PM match with the White Mules.
